  8. What Is It?

  11. Multi-Saver is a screen saver for the Atari Falcon 030.
  12. 'Ah is that all?' I hear you ask...but wait!  Multi-Saver is a screen 
  13. saver with a difference!  It plays a standard 4 channel .MOD format 
  14. music file AND an .MPEG animation....AT THE SAME TIME!!
  15. That's what we mean by 'multimedia'!

  17. This is program was designed simply as a screen saver and not an 
  18. animation player!  If you stop what you're doing to go and make a 
  19. coffee, Multi-Saver will save your monitor from the dreaded screen 
  20. burn.  That is all.  It was not designed to be an animation player, 
  21. just a screensaver with a difference!

  26. As strange as it may sound to you, Multi-Saver is NOT Paula, and 
  27. Multi-Saver is NOT Plaympeg!
  28.  
  29. It seems obvious, but people forget those facts when Multi-Saver stops 
  30. working.  If your setup doesn't work, be sure to check that PLAYMPEG 
  31. and Paula work by themselves.  They surely won't work with Multi-Saver 
  32. if they don't work alone with your setup.

  38. You can define more than one MOD and MPEG to give a RANDOM selection!

  42. What Do I Need?

  45. An Atari Falcon 030 and a Multitasking Operating system like MagiC, 
  46. Geneva, or MultiTOS.
  47.  
  48. The minimum resolution required is 640*480*16 (This is a Falcon!!)
  49. Seriously any resolution should work, but the dialogs may be look a bit
  50. funny!

  52. How Do I Install It?

  55. Simple...after depacking the archive you should have the following 
  56. files...
  57.  
  58. MSAVER.ACC   - The main ACCessory
  59. MSAVER.CNF   - The .CNF file for Multi-Saver
  60. M_RSC.RSC    - The .RSC file Multi-Saver uses
  61. MICKEY.MPG   - A small MPG to get you started
  62. NIRVANA.MOD  - A small MOD file 
  63. PLAYMPEG.TOS - An MPEG player (Unregistered version)
  64. PAULA.ACC    - The MOD player (Unregistered version)
  65. SINI_20N.PRG - For users of MagiC

  67. All you have to do is this...

  69. For MagiC Users

  72. Copy SINI_20.PRG to the auto folder so it will run directly AFTER 
  73. MAGXBOOT.PRG (This resets the Falcon Sound System and makes it MagiC 
  74. friendly for Paula)

  76. Copy MSAVER.ACC, MSAVER.CNF, M_RSC.RSC and PAULA.ACC to the root 
  77. directory of your boot disk and simply reboot!

  79. For Geneva Users

  82. Just copy the MSAVER.ACC, MSAVER.CNF, M_RSC.RSC and PAULA.ACC files to 
  83. the root directory of your boot disk and reboot...easy! :)

  88. Copy MSAVER.ACC, MSAVER.CNF, M_RSC.RSC, and PAULA.ACC files into the 
  89. root directory, and reboot.

  92. How Do I Use It?

  95. Load up your favourite text editor and load the MSAVER.CNF file.
  96. All you have to do is edit the file to suit your needs.

  120. MINUTES and SECONDS - How long Multi-Saver waits before activating. If 
  121.                       no keyboard, mouse or modem activity for 10 
  122.                       minutes 10 seconds then activate
  123.                       
  124. MPEG_PLAYER         - Tells Multi-Saver the name of the MPEG player and 
  125.                       where it is located
  126.                       
  127. MPEG                - Tells Multi-Saver the path and name of the MPG 
  128.                       file.  You may specify more than one!
  129.                       
  130. MOD                 - Tells Multi-Saver the path and name of the .MOD 
  131.                       file, again you may specify more than one! 
  132.

  134. MOUSE, KEYBOARD, and MODEM are switches to tell Multi-Saver to check for 
  135. activity of the specified device.  For instance, if you want it to check the 
  136. keyboard for activity, specify KEYBOARD.  If you don't, simply omit 
  137. KEYBOARD.
  138.  
  139. When the .CNF file is configured to how you want it, just save it and 
  140. reboot!
  141.  
  142. Setting Up PAULA.ACC
  143. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

  145. Once everything is loaded select Paula and configure as follows...
  146. Replay to 12.5Khz
  147. Interpolate to 'ON'
  148. Random to 'ON'
  149. Repeat to 'ON'
  150.  
  151. When this is done quit Paula,sit back and wait. :)

  153. Limitations
  154. %%%%%%%%%%%
  155.  
  156. Playback of the MPEG file is dependent on the replay rate of the MOD 
  157. file.  For fastest playback use the settings described above.  For 
  158. better sound quality use a higher replay frequency, but be prepared 
  159. for slow MPEG playback...
  160.  
  161. The MOD file is only played ONCE even with repeat set to 'On' :(
  162. We're working on it!

  164. Only standard 4 Channel MOD files may be used as Paula does not use 
  165. the DSP but PLAYMPEG.TOS does.
  166.  
  167. To exit the screensaver press any key.  This is because of the way 
  168. PLAYMPEG works.  Sorry.

  170. For some reason the screen is not redrawn properly upon exiting...
  171. again we're working on it!
  172.  
  173. It seems that the virutal memory program, "Outside" doesn't go well 
  174. with PLAYMPEG.TOS.  Sorry.  Talk to Griff, the author of PLAYMPEG.TOS, 
  175. if you want that to change!

  177. If you have the registered versions of PAULA.ACC and PLAYMPEG.TOS
  178. you may use these instead of the unregistered versions supplied.
